Sapphire Journey

Sapphire Journey

Published by Ellinor Mazza on 6th Mar 2026

I have been obsessed with Australian sapphires for many years, leading me to create many special pieces with these incredible gems. In my time in the jewellery industry I have also made lots of special connections to the people on the front line of bringing these natural wonders into the world.

Liz and Steve operate Evans Family Fossickers on the central Queensland gemfields. Steve's family has been mining since 1960s after their arrival in Australia.

"It’s the richest sapphire‑bearing ground in the world, and there’s something addictive about pulling a stone from the earth, seeing its potential, and shaping it into something that will outlive all of us."

"Australian sapphires have a depth and honesty that feels unique to this country. No two natural sapphires are ever the same, and that individuality is something we absolutely love."

"Beyond the colour, it’s the story. All of our sapphires come from small, family‑run claims rather than large industrial mines. Every stone has a person behind it, a place behind it, and a sense of country you can feel when you hold it. They’re beautifully sometimes imperfect in the best possible way — full of character, shaped by tens of millions of years beneath the earth."
We have some incredible sapphires, both loose and in ready made jewellery in store right now, browse our collection in store and online.
